BEIRUT, May 22, 2025 – President Mahmoud Abbas met with Arab ambassadors accredited to Lebanon at his residence in Beirut on Thursday evening, as part of his three-day official visit to the country.
During the meeting, President Abbas briefed the ambassadors on the dire situation in the Palestinian territories amid the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on Gaza.
He also briefed the ambassadors on the escalating violence perpetrated by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem.
The president emphasized the urgent need to end the Israeli aggression, halt the war of extermination, and allow immediate entry of humanitarian aid—including food, water, medicine, and fuel—into the Gaza Strip.
President Abbas reaffirmed the State of Palestine's willingness to take on responsibilities related to facilitating the return of displaced people, leading reconstruction efforts, and restoring essential services. He discussed ongoing collaborations with Arab and international partners in preparation for the upcoming International Peace Conference scheduled for June in New York.
The conference aims to gather support for the full recognition of the State of Palestine and to secure its full membership in the United Nations. This is intended to pave the way for a political process that would end the Israeli occupation and establish a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Additionally, President Abbas updated ambassadors on the outcomes of his visit to Lebanon, which included discussions to strengthen Palestinian-Lebanese relations. Key topics covered were the issue of weapons in refugee camps, improving living conditions for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, rebuilding refugee camps, and providing support for Palestinian students in Lebanese universities through the Mahmoud Abbas Foundation.
