President Abbas congratulates Merz for winning Germany’s parliamentary elections

RAMALLAH, February 25, 2025 –President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday congratulated the leader of the German Christian Democratic Union party, Friedrich Merz, on his party’s victory in the German parliamentary elections.
In a congratulatory telegram, President Abbas wished Merz success in forming a new government to serve the German people and enhance Germany's pioneering role in supporting regional and international stability and peace.
The President expressed his appreciation for Merz's principled stance rejecting the displacement of the Palestinian people and his party's steadfast support for the two-state solution, looking forward to working together with the Merz government to achieve this noble and urgent goal.
He expressed his confidence that, in light of the unprecedented challenges facing the international system, Germany will remain steadfast in its support for international law as the basis for a just global order rooted in international rules and United Nations resolutions.
He added that Germany's role in promoting the values of justice, peace, and mutual respect for international law is of utmost importance in enhancing cooperation and understanding among peoples.
He concluded by voicing his confidence that Merz’s leadership will continue to uphold these principles and contribute to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East and beyond.
