President Abbas receives phone call from Cypriot president

RAMALLAH, January 20, 2025 – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call today from President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides.
During the call, the two sides emphasized the solid relations between the two friendly countries and peoples, and the importance of continuing cooperation and joint coordination in all fields.
They also discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and informed the Cypriot President of the Palestinian position on the necessity of adhering to an immediate ceasefire and the importance of its sustainability; the entry of humanitarian aid and its delivery to those who deserve it; the complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip; and recognition that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of occupied Palestinian territory, with the State of Palestine assuming full responsibilities there
He also stressed the need to implement a comprehensive and permanent political solution by ending the occupation and the Palestinian people obtaining their legitimate rights, freedom, and independence.
The President said that the Palestinian government, its civil and security apparatuses and crossings are ready to assume their full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip in order to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people; help the displaced return to their homes and places of residence; restore basic services such as water and electricity; and restore the educational process, health, and social services and reconstruction.
He pointed out that the government has prepared a relief, early recovery and emergency response plan for the Gaza Strip in cooperation with donor countries and international and UN organizations, which aims to expedite the entry of relief aid and deliver it in a sufficient manner to the Palestinian people, stressing the need to compel the occupation authorities to stop the serious attacks and violations they are committing in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and to stop all forms of settlement, crimes of colonists, and violations against Islamic and Christian sanctities.
The President praised the Cypriot role in supporting peace and stability based on international legitimacy resolutions and international law, and the important role of Cyprus within the framework of the European Union. He expressed appreciation for Cyprus’s backing of the international peace conference next June, to mobilize international support to implement the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, international recognition of the State of Palestine, and its obtaining full membership in the United Nations. Such support, he added, is essential to achieve security and stability in the region, to end the occupation and embodying the establishment of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
