RAMALLAH, January 10, 2025 – President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, called Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to congratulate him following his election as President of Lebanon and his swearing-in.

In his phone call, President Abbas expressed his hopes that President Aoun's election would bring hope to the Lebanese people as they face current challenges and guide the country towards progress and prosperity.

President Abbas also noted, "We followed your address to the Lebanese Parliament, and we fully support what you outlined, particularly regarding the Palestinian issue and the conditions of our refugee population in Lebanon."

We support ensuring their dignity and rights under Lebanese law until they can return to their homeland and their country, once our independent Palestinian state is realized, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Abbas reiterated his congratulations to the Lebanese people on this important constitutional milestone, wishing President Aoun success in his duties and continued progress and prosperity for the people of Lebanon.
