President Abbas discusses developments with Arab League Secretary-General

CAIRO, February 11, 2023 – President Mahmoud Abbas this evening received at his residence in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, where they discussed the latest developments in Palestine.
President Abbas briefed Aboul Gheit on the situation regarding the Palestinian cause in light of the dangerous Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people, particularly in Jerusalem, and the ongoing settler attacks on holy sites, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as on Palestinian citizens and their land.
During the meeting, the President emphasized the need for Israel to abide by all agreements signed with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and to halt all unilateral measures on the ground.
The discussions also addressed the upcoming Arab League Conference in Support of Jerusalem, which aims to shed light on the suffering of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and their right to live freely on their land.
Both sides stressed the importance of increasing Arab support for Palestinians in Jerusalem, particularly in the sectors of education, health, housing, and other vital areas.
Later, President Abbas received Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra and his accompanying delegation at his residence in Cairo.
During the meeting, President Abbas expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s steadfast positions in support of the Palestinian cause in all international forums and for its continued efforts to advance intra-Palestinian reconciliation.
