Date : 11/02/2023
CAIRO, February 11, 2023 – President Mahmoud Abbas arrived today in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where he is scheduled to participate in the Conference in Support of Jerusalem, held at the headquarters of the Arab League.
Palestine’s Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Diab al-Louh, said that the conference aims to internationalize the issue of Jerusalem and strengthen the steadfastness of its Palestinian residents, in light of Israel’s ongoing targeting of the city, its Islamic and Christian sanctities, and its inhabitants. He noted that this has intensified following the formation of Israel’s far-right government, which seeks to destroy the two-state solution.
The international conference also seeks to explore ways to support the resilience of Palestinians in the Holy City through development and investment. It will review a study presented by the State of Palestine outlining 25 to 30 proposed projects in sectors such as health, education, housing, and women’s empowerment.
Ambassador al-Louh expressed hope that the conference would conclude with the establishment of a committee of Arab legal experts specializing in international law to provide advice on cases involving violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities. He added that the committee is expected to meet periodically to discuss legal issues and document violations in Jerusalem.
