RAMALLAH, February 5, 2023 – President Mahmoud Abbas today chaired a meeting of the Palestinian security forces to discuss the latest political and security developments following the recent Israeli escalation of violence.

“The Israeli occupation government bears full responsibility for this escalation, as it continues to violate international legitimacy resolutions and take unilateral actions that breach signed agreements and all international norms and laws,” President Abbas said during the meeting.

The President underscored the importance of the measures and decisions taken by the Palestinian leadership, including the cessation of security coordination with Israel and pursuing action in international forums and courts to safeguard the rights and national interests of the Palestinian people.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining peaceful popular resistance and ensuring the security and stability of Palestinian communities, stating that this responsibility “must be borne collectively by all governmental and security institutions, governors, national forces, and civil society organizations.”

During the meeting, the President instructed the security services to continue upholding the rule of law, maintaining public order, and preserving civil peace.
