CAIRO, January 17, 2023 – President Mahmoud Abbas today expressed his appreciation for the steadfast Egyptian and Jordanian support of the Palestinian position rejecting unilateral Israeli actions.
The President made his remarks during a tripartite summit held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
President Abbas underscored the need for all parties to assume their responsibilities in accordance with signed agreements, in a manner that builds mutual confidence and lays the foundation for reopening the political horizon.
In his address, President Abbas emphasized the importance of this tripartite summit and its mechanisms at all levels, as they aim to bolster the Palestinian cause and confront the agenda and practices of Israel’s new far-right, supremacist government.
He noted that the summit seeks to halt Israeli unilateral measures, open a credible political horizon, and enable the Palestinian people to attain their legitimate rights — foremost among them, ending the Israeli occupation of the territory of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Abbas expressed deep appreciation for President El-Sisi’s and King Abdullah II’s unwavering positions in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause.
He also voiced hope that the Palestinian position — which includes implementing measures at the United Nations, international courts, and other relevant bodies in line with the decisions of the Palestinian Central Council — will continue to receive the backing of Egypt, Jordan, and the broader international community.
