President Abbas meets Irish counterpart

DUBLIN, Saturday, September 17, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas met this evening with Irish President Michael D. Higgins shortly after arriving at Dublin International Airport.
During the meeting, President Abbas thanked President Higgins for Ireland’s consistent political support for the Palestinian cause within the European Union and international forums, particularly at the United Nations Security Council.
He expressed his appreciation for Ireland’s continued support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), as well as the undergraduate scholarships offered to Palestinian students.
President Abbas also welcomed any Irish initiative aimed at reviving the political process.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al-Malki, Head of the General Intelligence Service Major General Majid Faraj, Diplomatic Affairs Adviser to the President Majdi Al-Khalidi, and Palestine’s Ambassador to Ireland, Gilan Wahba Abdul Majeed.
President Abbas also held a separate meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, during which he thanked him for Ireland’s steadfast support of Palestine across all international platforms.
