President Abbas declares state of emergency for 30 days to combat the coronavirus pandemic

RAMALLAH, Thursday, August 25, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas today declared a 30-day state of emergency in Palestine to continue efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state of emergency was first imposed in March 2020 following the discovery of the initial coronavirus cases in the Palestinian territories.

Under the declaration, the government is granted the authority to take any measures it deems necessary to confront and contain the pandemic.
