Presidency forcefully condemn incitement campaign against President Abbas
Date : 19/08/2022
RAMALLAH, Friday, August 19, 2022 – The Palestinian Presidency today strongly condemned the incitement campaign targeting President Mahmoud Abbas.
Presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a press statement that several parties are engaged in a campaign aimed at discrediting the Palestinian struggle and undermining the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. He stressed that such attacks are unacceptable and represent a red line that will not be allowed to be crossed.
Abu Rudeineh was referring to the hostile reactions to President Abbas’ remarks in Berlin, where he drew comparisons related to the Holocaust while expressing outrage over the ongoing genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
He said the persistent campaign against President Abbas seeks to weaken the Palestinian national project, noting that the President has repeatedly affirmed that he will never relinquish the holy sites in Jerusalem, regardless of the pressure or cost.
Abu Rudeineh criticized the international community for its double standards and selective silence in the face of daily Israeli crimes, including the killing of children, military raids, and incursions into the offices of human rights organizations.
He added that even after President Abbas issued clarifying statements, the campaign continued — indicating that the real goal is to undermine the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their leadership.
He concluded that these attempts will ultimately fail, as the Palestinian leadership remains firmly committed to national principles, particularly ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
