NICOSIA, Tuesday, June 14, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas said today that the Palestinian leadership will be compelled to take the necessary legal steps to protect the interests of the Palestinian people and put an end to the crimes of the Israeli occupation, which have reached an unacceptable level.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades at the presidential palace in Larnaca, President Abbas underscored that the current situation is intolerable in light of the absence of a political horizon and a lack of international protection for the Palestinian people.

He emphasized that the Palestinian leadership will continue diplomatic efforts to mobilize international support to confront these dangerous challenges and to push for deterrent measures that ensure an end to double standards.

President Abbas affirmed that the Palestinian leadership is ready to engage in any peace initiatives or efforts based on United Nations resolutions, leading to peace, security, and stability for all in the region, and to the end of the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He thanked Cyprus for its steadfast position in recognizing the State of Palestine and for its support of the Palestinian people in international forums in pursuit of their freedom and independence.

The President also expressed gratitude to Cyprus for its continued advocacy for achieving peace based on the two-state solution in accordance with UN resolutions.
