RAMALLAH, Thursday, May 26, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas today appointed Hussein Al-Sheikh as Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Al-Sheikh currently serves as Minister of Civil Affairs and is a member of Fatah’s Central Committee.

He succeeds the late Saeb Erekat, the longtime chief Palestinian negotiator, who held the position until his passing from COVID-19 in November 2020. The post had remained vacant since then.
