RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 14, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas today urged the international community to end its silence and double standards regarding the situation in Palestine, saying such policies have emboldened Israel to continue its violations and deny the Palestinian people their legitimate national rights.
Speaking on the 74th anniversary of the Nakba, the President emphasized that national unity remains the strongest response to the Nakba, the occupation, and the ongoing injustice faced by the Palestinian people due to international double standards.
President Abbas paid tribute to the martyrs of the Palestinian people, whose sacrifices, he said, have preserved the Palestinian national cause and ensured its place on both the Middle East and international political map.
He stressed that remaining steadfast on the land—holding onto it despite all hardships, complexities, and brutal occupation practices—is the most powerful response to the Nakba and to the policies of ethnic cleansing, settlement expansion, and Judaization.
The President also called on Israeli leaders to end the denial of the other and to recognize the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, warning that continued refusal to do so will not bring security or stability to anyone.
