RAMALLAH, Monday, March 28, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas today welcomed Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

“It is a great honor for us to host His Majesty the King, and we also warmly welcome His Highness, the Crown Prince,” President Abbas said. “We are pleased to see you in your second country, Palestine, to discuss various issues and continue our consultations. We are committed to maintaining constant communication, whether through visits or ongoing contact.”

The President emphasized the deep ties between the two nations, stating: “Your Majesty, we and you are one. Jordan and Palestine are one—our interests, concerns, and hopes are the same. We always value these important visits, especially as they provide an opportunity to consult and discuss current developments.”

He added: “We never forget that Jordan’s position on the Palestinian cause is a truly Palestinian position. We are fully aware that your directives concerning Palestine are never delayed but implemented immediately. This principled Jordanian stance is a great honor for us, and today we sit together to listen to your wise opinion.”

King Abdullah II reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their rights. “We stand with you at all times, despite all challenges,” he said.

“The region cannot enjoy peace and stability without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, guaranteeing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the King added.

He stressed the importance of halting all unilateral measures, particularly in Jerusalem and the Al-Haram Al-Sharif (Al-Aqsa Mosque compound), which undermine the prospects for comprehensive and lasting peace.

King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s continued efforts to safeguard the legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem and protect Islamic and Christian holy sites under the Hashemite custodianship.

“We are here today to hear from you, as we are in the same trench,” he said. “We want to know what is required from Jordan to help ease the challenges and obstacles before you.”

The King expressed his pleasure at being in Ramallah and praised the warm reception and hospitality.
