President Abbas receives the Chinese Government Special Envoy to the Middle East

RAMALLAH, Thursday, March 10, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas this evening received the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East, Zhai Jun, and his accompanying delegation at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

President Abbas briefed the Chinese envoy on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the efforts of the Palestinian leadership to end the Israeli occupation and establish the independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.

He warned that Israel’s continued refusal to implement its obligations under signed agreements, alongside its unilateral actions, is undermining any chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy. He reaffirmed that the decisions adopted by the Palestinian Central Council during its latest session will be implemented.

President Abbas asked the delegation to convey his greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping, emphasizing the historical relations between the two friendly countries and the importance of further strengthening them. He praised China’s firm positions in support of Palestinian rights in all international forums and expressed deep appreciation for China’s cooperation and substantial economic support toward building the institutions of the State of Palestine.

He also commended China’s significant role in promoting peace and stability in the region and the world, as well as the important initiatives launched by President Xi aimed at achieving a just peace and ensuring the freedom and independence of the Palestinian people.

For his part, the Chinese envoy conveyed President Xi Jinping’s greetings to President Abbas, affirming China’s unwavering position in support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights in all international forums. He added that China will continue to provide the necessary assistance to the Palestinian people.
