President Abbas, Egyptian counterpart discuss bilateral cooperation

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Tuesday, January 11, 2022 – President Mahmoud Abbas and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, discussed today ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordination on issues of mutual interest.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the 4th edition of the World Youth Forum, held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, the two leaders agreed to maintain close coordination regarding future steps and joint positions within the framework of ongoing bilateral cooperation.

President Abbas congratulated President al-Sisi on the successful organization of the four-day forum, which hosts youth representatives from 196 countries and runs until Thursday.

He briefed the Egyptian President on the latest political developments in the Palestinian territories, highlighting ongoing Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.

President Abbas expressed his gratitude to Egypt for its steadfast support of the Palestinian cause and President al-Sisi’s continued efforts to advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence.

For his part, President al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its commitment to advancing efforts toward achieving a just and lasting peace.
