President Abbas receives US National Security Adviser

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, December 22, 2021 – President Mahmoud Abbas received US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and his accompanying delegation this evening in Ramallah.
During the meeting at the presidential headquarters, President Abbas briefed Sullivan on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, emphasizing the need to end the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, halt settlement activity, and stop the ongoing attacks and violence carried out by settlers.
He underscored the importance of respecting the historical status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, ending the expulsion of Palestinian residents from Jerusalem neighborhoods, stopping the deductions from Palestinian tax revenues, and easing measures that are stifling the Palestinian economy.
President Abbas stressed the need to halt all unilateral Israeli actions that undermine the two-state solution, and called for the implementation of signed agreements between the two sides as a starting point for a genuine political process based on international legitimacy.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations with the United States and overcoming obstacles hindering their progress.
For his part, Sullivan conveyed President Joe Biden’s greetings to President Abbas and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to the two-state solution, stressing the importance of joint efforts by all parties to advance peace and stability in the region.
