President Abbas meets Italian counterpart in Rome

ROME, Tuesday, November 02, 2021 – President Mahmoud Abbas met this afternoon with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, in Rome.

President Abbas arrived at the Quirinale Palace, where he inspected the honor guard before being received by President Mattarella and several senior Italian officials.

The two leaders held a bilateral meeting during which President Abbas briefed his counterpart on the latest political developments in Palestine, particularly the ongoing assaults by the Israeli occupation authorities and settlers in Jerusalem, as well as wider political efforts concerning the Palestinian question.

They discussed the state of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, with President Abbas emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation and expressing appreciation for Italy’s consistent positions in support of the Palestinian people in international forums.

President Mattarella welcomed President Abbas and his delegation, reaffirming Italy’s support for the rights of the Palestinian people and his commitment to sustaining and advancing relations between the two countries.
