President Abbas re-instates state of emergency in Palestine over COVID-19

Date : 30/09/2021

AMALLAH, Thursday, September 30, 2021 – President Mahmoud Abbas today re-instated the state of emergency in Palestine for 30 days to continue efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The state of emergency was first declared in March 2020 following the detection of the initial COVID-19 cases in the Palestinian territories, and has since been extended or re-issued every 30 days.

Palestinian law permits a one-time extension of the state of emergency, and any continuation beyond that requires issuing a new declaration.

The state of emergency grants the government the authority to take whatever measures it deems necessary to combat the pandemic.
