President Abbas re-instates state of emergency in Palestine over COVID-19

Date : 03/07/2021

RAMALLAH, Saturday, July 03, 2021 – President Mahmoud Abbas today re-instated the state of emergency in Palestine for 30 days to continue efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The state of emergency was first declared in March 2020 following the detection of the initial COVID-19 cases in the Palestinian territories, and has since been extended or re-instated in 30-day intervals.

Palestinian law allows the state of emergency to be extended once; any continuation beyond that requires issuing a new declaration.

The state of emergency grants the government the authority to take whatever measures it deems necessary to confront the pandemic.
