RAMALLAH, October 9, 2025 – President Mahmoud Abbas received a delegation from the Palestinian-Israeli Peace Coalition at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah on Thursday.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Abbas reiterated his welcome for U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding an agreement to cease war on the Gaza Strip. This agreement includes the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, and provisions for a prisoner exchange.

The President acknowledged the efforts of President Trump and all the mediators involved—Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States—in reaching this agreement during its initial phase.

He expressed hope that all parties would commit to fully implementing the first phase and continue negotiations to achieve lasting and just peace and security. This should lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state that exists alongside Israel in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

During the meeting, President Abbas addressed the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where over 67,000 civilians have been killed, and approximately 170,000 others have been injured, most of whom are women and children.

He also highlighted the unilateral Israeli measures that violate international law, particularly the expansion of settlements and settlers violence.

He also warned against the Israeli government's hate speech directed at the Palestinian people and its ongoing incitement aimed at undermining the institutions of the Palestinian National Authority. This includes withholding Palestinian tax revenues and stifling the Palestinian leadership.

The President emphasized that true peace, security, and stability cannot be achieved by denying others’ existence or depriving them of their national rights. He stated, “Our goal is freedom, dignity, security, justice, and the right to a normal and safe life.”

Additionally, he addressed the increasing wave of international recognition of the State of Palestine, highlighting that such recognitions are not intended to be against Israel; rather, they are steps toward justice, true peace, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. This state would bring lasting security and stability for both Palestinians and Israelis.

He stressed that recognizing Palestine embodies the principle of equality among peoples. “Just as Israelis have the right to a state, so do Palestinians,” he asserted, emphasizing that Israeli recognition of the Palestinian state would pave the way for an end to the conflict and a comprehensive peace.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Abbas reiterated his welcome to the visiting delegation and emphasized the importance of meetings in building trust between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

He expressed hope that this meeting would mark the beginning of a new path, not only in politics but also in fostering a shared human connection between the two sides.

President Abbas called on the delegation members to form a popular Israeli front for just peace, one that would amplify the voice of reason within Israeli society.
