President Abbas meets with Iraqi counterpart, discuss Palestine developments

AMMAN, October 28, 2025 – President Mahmoud Abbas met today in Amman, the capital of Jordan, with the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid.

During the meeting, President Abbas expressed his gratitude to Iraq, its leadership, and its people for their unwavering support of the State of Palestine and for Baghdad’s significant role in defending Arab causes, particularly ts presidency of the current Arab Summit.

President Abbas briefed his Iraqi counterpart on the latest political and humanitarian developments in the Palestinian territories, especially the dire situation in the Gaza Strip.

He emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to solidify the ceasefire, facilitate the entry of aid, and proceed with reconstruction while preventing displacement and annexation.

Additionally, President Abbas informed President Rashid about the violations committed by the Israeli occupation, acts of terrorism by settlers, and the ongoing attacks on holy sites in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.

The two presidents also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Palestine and Iraq, as well as enhancing joint Arab coordination to support efforts aimed at enabling the State of Palestine to assume its full responsibilities. They addressed the need to prevent the undermining of Palestinian institutions. Furthermore, they explored ways to mobilize Arab and international support to end the occupation and realize an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
