President Abbas receives China’s special envoy to the Middle East

RAMALLAH, January 7, 2026 — President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas today received the Special Envoy of China to the Middle East, Ambassador Zhai Jun, and his accompanying delegation at the Presidential Headquarters in the city of Ramallah.
President Abbas welcomed the Chinese delegation and commended China’s support for Palestinian rights at international forums, reflecting the depth of the historical relations linking the two friendly countries and peoples.
The President expressed the gratitude of the State of Palestine and its people for the humanitarian and development assistance provided by China, particularly the humanitarian aid extended to the people of the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, President Abbas reviewed the latest developments related to the Palestinian cause. He stressed the importance of consolidating the cessation of the war in the Gaza Strip and moving toward the implementation of the second phase of the plan, including the Israeli withdrawal from the Strip and the launch of reconstruction efforts. President Abbas also underscored the need to halt Israeli attacks in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem, as well as colonial expansion, colonist violence, and the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues.
President Abbas emphasized the importance of continuing international efforts to end the occupation and achieve independence for the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The President welcomed the invitation extended by Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the Arab-Chinese Summit, scheduled to be held in Beijing next June, expressing his appreciation for President Xi and his supportive positions toward the Palestinian people, as well as his keenness to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Palestine and China. He reaffirmed the State of Palestine’s commitment to further consolidating and enhancing bilateral relations between Palestine and China in a manner that serves the interests of both the Palestinian and Chinese peoples.
President Abbas also renewed Palestine’s support for the One-China policy adopted by the People’s Republic of China to preserve its territorial unity and reject interference in its internal affairs. He noted that China’s prudent policies at the international level have contributed to supporting regional stability and global peace and security.
For his part, the Chinese envoy conveyed the greetings of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to President Mahmoud Abbas, reaffirming his country’s firm support for the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to an independent state and confirming the continuation of humanitarian and development assistance to the Palestinian people.
